Fair Trade Boston is a grassroots initiative aimed at alleviating global poverty and promoting environmental sustainability by widely increasing the use of Fair Trade products throughout the Greater Boston area. Our kick-off event was held Saturday June 13th and was a successful celebration of Fair Trade, sustainable living, and social justice. Our aims are to:
- Raise awareness of Fair Trade among diverse communities
- Increase youth involvement in Fair Trade organizing
- Inspire and propel the campaign to make Boston an official Fair Trade city
Every day the practice of Fair Trade improves the lives of farmers, artisans, producers and their families by increasing incomes, improving working conditions and promoting democratic principles in the workplace. Fair Trade consumers benefit from receiving high quality, unique goods and the knowledge that their responsible purchase has made a positive impact on our world.
Fair Trade Boston is part of the greater Fair Trade Towns movement that is campaigning to help more cities officially declare themselves promoters of fair trade. The national movement unites community activists from across the country who are dedicatd to the principles of fair trade. By organizing our communities at the local level, we are able to make a tangible impact on the US market to demand that international justice and equity is a priority.
